Even as a couch potato, I know there are two types of general soreness. There is the kind that hurts at first but goes away or at least reduces when you push through it and then there's the kind that just doesn't go away or feel better, even when you push.

A second thought about CJ. With his history of lost or diminished games from concussions, should we encourage him to use the Guardian Cap? I know there is a toughness issue psychologically, but if Pitre can do it, perhaps it's time for CJ to do it as well.

I’ve been calling for CJ to use the Guardian Cap since it came available. It’s stupid not to. At some point all players will be using them. Furthermore, not using the cap could end up with CJ losing out on possibly hundreds of millions of dollars if his career is cut short. So, why not use it? It benefits the team and the player.

No shame in protecting your brain.

A guardian cap will diminish his swag.

The NFL just needs to make it mandatory to remove the stigma for everyone. What counter argument could there possibly be except for aesthetics, which is a pretty stupid counter argument to brain protection?

Exactly, and they’re already wearing pads all over their body. What’s one more pad going to hurt.

Rotator cuff issues destroyed a once viable baseball career. Mid to high 90’s summer going in to junior year of high school. Rotator tendinitis as early as 13. Full tear prior to junior year. Maxed out at 89 my senior year.

My soreness level from throwing did not recede post games until 5-6 days later. It was a sign. Heavily detrimental to arm strength… trust me I know it all to well.

I think this is the right move. Let's see how he performs this year and go from there.

I never had that issue but I could tell CJ wasn't right last yr. He was missing on throws, Ive seen him make in his SLEEP. He was throwing behind players and he was throwing short. I think he started compensating and it all came to ahead in the Playoffs

Question, what if he performs like he did last yr but they win the Division and make it to the AFC Championship Game, what should the Texans do?

GOOD QBs don't grow on trees and if they are picking in the low 20's, they are not going to have the Draft Capital to move up. So what do they do?

You have the 5th year to continue your evaluation and prepare for either an extension or replacement.

I'm also a proponent of always developing a young qb in the wings. Either continue with the guy we took in the 6th rd last year or draft another in later rds this year.

I think it’s solely on his play.
Team success and his play are two different things, that was pretty evident this past season.
If he’s accurate, doesn’t hurt the team and can be a solid game manager at minimum, I think you have to extend him.
Just not at 50+ mil a year

I highly doubt they make it to Conference game if he performed like he did last season. You let him play out the 5th year.

The only counter argument I see is that the added protection might make using the head more acceptable because of the appearance of protection. But that's a matter of maintaining standards, not protecting the players.

This is an old argument which occurred first with using helmets and again with the introduction of the Hard helmet and then again with the development of face masks. Each time, the result was using the head to make spectacular tackles because the game has always been about appearances, rather than safety.

How long are we going to hang with CJ before posters start to realize CJ's rookie year ain't coming back and they need to move on from him? He was historically bad in the playoffs.

It's funny. I noticed QBs facing great Defenses do poorly.

It`s the $50+ Million per year I tend to balk at that, for Mahomes/Allen/Jackson heck yea, but we see the fiasco with Tua and Kyler that were over paid so it's a fine line. Does this team need a Josh Allen type QB or do we need a game manager like Sam Darnold who was dam decent who will make $27.5 million. IMO CJ`s agent will want top tier $$..............should be interesting

You know, you are right. CJ is really bad, as in worst in history bad. Why we should just cut him, he's that bad. Mills is it or team can just tank for a few years and get the high pick again. Oh wait, historically good defense, can't tank even if you try. What to do? Wait, I know, fire everyone, coach, GM, all the top All Pro players so we can get picks and tank and hope for a franchise level QB in the draft. Only have to wait a few more years. That's a great plan. No? Your suggestion is what again? Trade the farm and all the chickens for J Allen? It takes 2 to tangle. May work. Who knows. Or kick out the owner because he/she doesn't care about winning, right?

Frustration is a bad situation to live in. Hope, there is still hope. Take a deep breath and, hope the 2026 season will bring better results. Who knows, a better O Line (one can hope), a grinder RB (maybe that can help), even better defense (perhaps). And, and, just maybe, the man sees the light and gets his act together. I think there was a bit of reading his own press clippings going on but I think between NOT getting extend now (team will wait to see if 2026 is a different and improved) or still the same CJ, and perhaps he gets back to basics and get back to what he does best, CJ will be a more productive and stable version of himself. Maybe not rookie of the year level, but with this Run first and best defense team, it may just work out.

Who knows, but hitting the panic button now, and blowing up everything will do nothing for the future of this team. You surely didn't want to do that, right. But there is no option that is good to magically replace CJ with a "proven" Super Bowl ready QB. Just not there, not without mortgaging team future and ONLY if the other team agrees with you.
