This is an unimportant nitpick, but my main problem with both Craig and Matt on the radio is that they are too excitable when the opposing team makes a big play. I need monotony when the opposing team scores.
I think they are bad when compared to other teams guys. I love The Kings broadcast, the Hornets, I hate to say it but the warriors guys are funny and enjoyable (against any team but Houston), even the Bulls are great. All of those teams commentators are level, professional, and people know their roles. The Hornets guy can become unhinged at times...but even then its only when crazy stuff happens. But I gotta admit there are many times during games where I turn the sound down. Usually when Ryan and Craig go off on tangents and talk over each other. Thats a real hard listen. They have their moments and are often average more than they are bad but yeah...plenty of room for improvement. Also, someone tell Craig that its okay to be wrong. I think him gracefully accepting that he might not know something or backing down is much easier to listen to than always being like, "Actually..." and then railroading whoever was talking until he can say his piece. That sucks in life and on bball broadcasts. Ryan should spend more time talking ball he's great at that. Just lean into what they are good at.
Yeah I feel this too. I'm always annoyed when Matt gets hype only to realize its the other teams 3 pointer -_-.
Bulls announcers were hyping us up like crazy last night, even when we were getting blown out. So I don't mind them being excited for the other team. If we suck, we deserve to hear about it.
I have noticed that most of the old geezers on here dont like the Craig/Ryan combo and want back the atrocious Bill and Cyde circus.
If you don’t like Bill Worrell, you ain’t a pure Houston fan If you like Craig & Ryan, probably a Gen Z’er, maybe millennial, who likes to hear them talk about gooning, jestergooning, jestermaxxing, auramaxxing, mogging, cortisol spiking, something UCLA, hello kitty, and anything else that has absolutely nothing to do with the game at hand or Rockets in general. They ****ing suck.
I have a tremendous fondness for Clyde as a former Rockets player - but not even a little bit for him as a color commentator/tv analyst.
I qualify as an old geezer and I mainly want Ryan replaced by Bullard. In a perfect world I want Worrell and Murphy but realize they are too old to do all the traveling now. There is nobody who seriously wants Drexler. I would rather keep the current crew than Drexler. I loved Drexler as a player but he was absolutely terrible as a color man. Bullard did a very good job when he was doing it.
Bill Worrell had his PHD in Geography. Taught us about the outskirts of Houston & all major cities. "What a shot by #1 draft pick Brent Price, he shot that one from way out in Naperville."
Always felt like Clyde showed up 30 minutes before tip off and was like "who are we playing tonight?"
I'll confess... With league pass... I listen to a lot of opposing teams broadcast. They are not a good combo at all and it seems like Craig gets legit annoyed at Ryan sometimes.
