He signed a minor league deal. I am not sure if it has an opt out or upward mobility clause, but it’s possible he could be sent to AAA to see how Salazar does or be insurance against injury.
very bold, but i like it. no real expectations so maybe that's a good thing. I know my blood pressure won't mind lol
Pretty sure every player in MLB does and should care about themselves more than the team. I suspect you care more about yourself and your family than you care about your employer. And I suspect the Astros organization cares more about the Astros than they do Correa.
People still care about that? Who gives a s*** at this point...or even at the time it happened? And I agree with @Major. I would expect him and anyone else to care about themselves and their families more than their employer.
The Astros really do not believe in Salazar's bat ... but ... Christian Vazquez has a weak bat as well. One has got to think that the Astros would only sign Vazquez if they planned to make him C2 and DFA Salazar. We will see.
Brown said the same thing about extending Kyle Tucker, and we saw what happened there. I don't see the Jim Crane going against his historical stance and signing both Pena and Brown to the huge contracts that it's going to take to keep them both in an Astros' uniform.
Maybe he saw that the Cole contract actually ended up being a decent deal for the Yankees. If we are going to extend anyone to a long term deal, it would be Hunter. I don’t think Pena’s deal would be all that crazy unless he goes nuts with a bat this season. It’s not he’s one of the big name short stops that had multiple 900 OPS seasons.
There’s 0% chance in my mind that Houston extends Brown or Pena. I’m sure they’re making them an offer that represents a good value to the Astros. But I would bet big that Pena is traded next offseason and Brown leaves in free agency.
This is meaningless - I'm not sure what else he would say on the spot. "Nah, we're just going to give up on keeping them and let them go." The Astros' priority was also to keep Springer, Cole, Correa, Bregman, Tucker, etc. They just don't value players nearly as much as they can get on the open market.
Walker and Diaz need to have an OB% of over .300…. At least Walker hit with power. Really no excuse for Diaz. I would probably hit Smith and Loperfido ahead of them as well… Walker can hit 30 solo homers at the bottom of the line up and Diaz can hit with his head up his ass again… The Diaz Experience is running thin for me. He needs to do SOMETHING well this year or we can sign someone off the street… even 60 year old Tom Pagnozzi would at least block the plate.
Crossing fingers that both of them really suck for the next few years until Free Agency so we can resign them for cheap. What do you mean that's not how it works?
I like most of these…. I’ll add, the Astros have a different closer by the end of the year than Hader or Abreu…. Cam Smith is a 5 WAR player… Christian Walker sets a career high for homers and strikeouts in a season. The Astros are looking for a starting pitcher and corner outfield bat at the deadline. Last - Dana Brown finally stops bottling up the rage he has and unloads on someone in the media or internally. Zach Cole sleeps with a teammates wife or girlfriend.
I will be surprised if he plays to be honest but if he does I will be shocked if he's further down in the lineup because of this.
