Why? He’s funny and better than Sean Elliot or other lames like Kyle Draper. But who cares when you’re watching a game! Not the most important thing when it comes to Rocket basketball
I don't find him amusing whatsoever. I think he's corny and goofy. Definitely not the most important thing when watching a game but I just don't like him. I don't know if he'd do it but I'd like Horry
I fell in love with The Rockets before I fell in love with basketball. That love came when I turned on Ch. 39 in '97 and heard Bill Worrell's intro. Bill and Clyde had a fun relationship, they have ties to the city and the team. You could hear Bill's emotion and could tell him and Clyde loved this team. They made it feel like "our broadcast" and "our team", I never cared to watch the national broadcast of the team if I could hear "our guys". It's been said many times, Ryan has zero ties to the city/team. So in that case it's hard to like him to begin with. As for Craig, he's not bad, but he was the radio guy that was not bad, but the same ones that grew up on Bill and Clyde also had Gene Peterson and Jim Foley and they were both miles ahead of Craig. It's not the most important thing, but they are another representation of how this team is just falling short in every category and losing longtime fans.
Why does having ties matter? Yes it would be great to have Horry or Elie or someone from our past but not necessary. None of the sideline girls have ties. Craig is fun and he breaks down plays and points out where the deficiencies are, which can teach most fans on here a thing or 2.
The fact that I tune them out as I watch is disturbing, these 2 make zero sense together, Ryan may actually be better than Craig. The guy with zero ties. Craig doesn’t have a voice for basketball at all. caffeine addict for sure, get the worst thing to replace Bill with. Not that Worrell will ever be replaceable.
For our home telecast on our channels here in the city it matters. Ryan is goofy and sucks cause he honestly doesn't care, it's a paycheck. He came from ESPN, everyone knows how ESPN let alone the national media treats the Rockets. I mean I been lurking for years on here and it was a topic of conversation. Watching the game hearing "our guys" makes it enjoyable instead of guys who don't know who our guys are. I mentioned watching them during the down years, having nicknames for guys like Flyin' Ryan Bowen or hearing them speak on rowdies or Worrell saying someone shot a deep 3 from Pasadena. Yes ties to our city and team make it enjoyable. If not, we might as well just be watching it on League Pass or something and hear the media that blatantly ignores us or is biased towards teams like LA, NY etc.
One more thing, Bill Worrell has a day in this city. I wonder why? The guy announced for The Stro's and The Rockets. The man sounds like us as well. You want another example of why we would want to listen to "our guys"? Go back to the shot clock incident with the cheating a** Utah Jazz. Gene and Jim screaming "START THE CLOCK!". Closest thing we had on the national telecast was JVG going to bat for us at times and bringing up Buccee's. lol
yeah i get it but I don’t think Ryan doesn’t care. There’s no history or legacy but He still sticks up for our team in terms of fouls and shows emotion when we don’t execute etc. sure it’s a paycheck but no different than you and me when we work for our company and that is who we go to bat for until we get employed by someone else.
Craig is barely bearable. Ryan is terrible. Bring back Bullard. He was the best color man they have had since Murph. I learned to love the Rockets back in the late 70's listening to Gene Peterson on the radio. Gene was the best Rockets broadcaster EVER. "How sweet it is!"
Ryan doesn't care about their Rockets. He's terrible at his job. The sooner they get rid of him the better
You know vibes is bad when a perfectly fine commentary team be gettin the business too. people done run outta **** to complain about with the team and trying to keep their interest up. Just go do something else with your time
Perfectly fine? Boy need to clean the earwax. Get rid of all the filth that is wrong with the rockets folks
He is likely someone who just started watching in the last few years. He probably never heard Worrell and Murph, Worrell and Bullard, or Gene Peterson and Jim Foley (by far the best).
I generally let the announcers blend into the background regardless of sport or crew. I wish there were a way to just have the game sounds without the commentary. I often have the Rockets on mute or low volume. The only times I generally wish I had the volume up to hear the commentators is when an off-ball foul/incident occurs that I missed, and they aren't showing what happened. That said, they do not seem to be a good fit when I am listening full volume. Not sure if Ackerman is bad or not. Hollins is bad. Maybe if Hollins were a Rocket, I would feel different. He just doesn't have Rockets stories.
