I AM PLEASE TO REPORT THAT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND THE COUNTRY OF IRAN, HAVE HAD, OVER THE LAST TWO DAYS, VERY GOOD AND PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS REGARDING A COMPLETE AND TOTAL RESOLUTION OF OUR HOSTILITIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST. BASED ON THE TENOR AND TONE OF THESE IN DEPTH, DETAILED, AND CONSTRUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS, WITCH WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, I HAVE INSTRUCTED THE DEPARTMENT OF WAR TO POSTPONE ANY AND ALL MILITARY STRIKES AGAINST IRANIAN POWER PLANTS AND ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE FOR A FIVE DAY PERIOD, SUBJECT TO THE SUCCESS OF THE ONGOING MEETINGS AND DISCUSSIONS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP

    Bibi will probably keep bombing.

Hour before the imposed deadline: No attack on energy infrastructure. Paused for 5 days.

There's a pattern here, and not a surprising one. Maximum threat. Retreat after the market impact of such statements, and likely pushback from regional nations.

Israel Thought It Could Spur Rebellion Inside Iran. That Hasn’t Happened. - The New York Times

As the United States and Israel prepared to go to war with Iran, the head of Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence service, went to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with a plan.

Within days of the war’s beginning, said David Barnea, the Mossad chief, his service would likely be able to galvanize the Iranian opposition — igniting riots and other acts of rebellion that could even lead to the collapse of Iran’s government. Mr. Barnea also presented the proposal to senior Trump administration officials during a visit to Washington in mid-January.

Mr. Netanyahu adopted the plan. Despite doubts about its viability among senior American officials and some officials in other Israeli intelligence agencies, both he and President Trump seemed to embrace an optimistic outlook. Killing Iran’s leaders at the outset of the conflict, followed by a series of intelligence operations intended to encourage regime change, they thought, could lead to a mass uprising that might bring about a swift end to the war.

“Take over your government: It will be yours to take,” Mr. Trump told Iranians in his initial address at the war’s start, after saying they should first seek shelter from the bombing.

Three weeks into the war, an Iranian uprising has not yet materialized. American and Israeli intelligence assessments have concluded that the theocratic Iranian government is weakened but intact, and that widespread fear of Iran’s military and police forces has dampened prospects both for nascent rebellion in the country and for ethnic militias outside of Iran to launch cross-border incursions.

The belief that Israel and the United States could help instigate widespread revolt was a foundational flaw in the preparations for a war that has spread across the Middle East. Instead of imploding from within, Iran’s government has dug in and escalated the conflict, striking blows and counterblows against military bases, cities and ships around the Persian Gulf, and against vulnerable oil and gas installations.

This account is based on interviews with more than a dozen current and former American, Israeli and other foreign officials, most of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss national security and intelligence issues during a war. The New York Times interviewed officials with a variety of views on the likelihood of an uprising.

I guarantee you the emiratis and Saudis called Trump freaking out about Iran hitting their desalination plants and their population not having any clean water. Trump made the threat without thinking about the consequences like usual. This will only embolden Iran more as they see how desperate Trump is for a deal.

I've never in my lifetime seen America be more humiliated than what's happening now.

Remember, this was a war that started with shifting goals. But the early ones were regime change and ensuring Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon.

Where we stand now is that both of those goals appear unachievable. Instead, the new objective is simply to reopen the strait and prevent massive inflation and economic collapse.

This is where we are today, and it represents a massive failure.

Well, as they should, if they're taking in multiple news sources. We were not attacked by Iran. The intelligence community (as testified by T.G.) had determined they were not building a bomb and were not direct threat to the US. Period. Why should any soldier want to give the ultimate sacrifice for this situation?

I'll say it again: madness/useless war has stopped before when soldiers or sailors say "F this crap" en masse.

Save our troops. Bring them home.

Why is the Israeli intelligence SO bad about movements like this? They can find locations of key people really well, but they can't read a cultural room.

It was never about Iran not acquiring a nuclear weapon cuz they already agreed to that in negotiations before the war. They were even willing to give up their enriched uranium to the west. The British and Oman negotiators said the Iranians agreed to every American demand except getting rid of their missle program

Trump is the World's Best Negotiator.

At this point, I do not see Iran making any agreement with Trump, since he never keeps his word ... or ... can't remember giving his word.

Trump at some point will just tweet the war is over and start withdrawing troops. Europe can figure out how to sort the Strait of Hormuz, right after they sort Ukraine and Russia.

I'm genuinely confused by that. It wasn't just a matter of "cultural room" - there was virtually no viable path for the Iranian opposition to execute anything. They had no access to weapons, to start with, and that alone should have ended the discussion. So I'm not sure how anyone concluded that the opposition would rise up and take over after some bombing campaign to eliminate their head of state and a few senior leaders.

And if only both the Israeli and American heads of state had listened to their other intelligence and senior officials who said - hold on, that's not going to happen.

#3, 4, and 5 were not part of the JCPOA. The JCPOA strictly focused on nuclear weapons. It didn't address nuclear reactors for civilian use that cannot be modified to enrich uranium to weapons grade. It also didn't focus on ballistic missile limits. Its goal was simple- to take the "nuke" out of the equation, which it accomplished.

The American negotiators (headed by the POTUS son-in-law and real estate broker) failed to realize that the Iranians came to the table genuinely and with a real proposal moving toward that. How do we know this? They talk about it openly (revealing their failure, misunderstanding, and incompetence) on venues such as podcasts.

Putting those two in charge of the negotiation was inexcusable.

The pathological liar in charge of our country started this sh*t! This is on him! This is on our spineless, boot licking Trump loyalist leaders who refused to limit his powers on this stupid war, which was based on lies from the start. If Iran had starting attacking us first, then we would seek revenge. Now they are on a revenge mission.

I just hope our troops (pawns in a senseless war) won't be killed as part of it. But, it's eye for an eye for them now. They have no reason to believe a word out of the mouths of Trump and Netaynhu, because they lie about everything.

Fatih Birol, the head of the International Energy Agency, warned Monday that the global economy faces a "major, major threat" from the war's disruption to oil and gas flows.

"No country will be immune to the effects of this crisis if it continues to go in this direction," Birol said speaking at Australia's National Press Club in Canberra Monday.

He added: "The situation is very severe."

"At least 40 energy facilities across nine countries have also been severely damaged in the conflict."

Birol said the current situation was worse than the combined oil crises of 1973 and 1979, which together lost 10 million barrels per day.

"And today, only as of today," we lost 11 million barrels per day – so more than two major oil shocks put together," he said.

It’s hard to make a deal when you give the other party zero reason to trust that you’ll honor the deal.
