So, for perspective, he is #40 in the league in three point percentage this season and #10 in three point attempts per 100 possessions. I would say the shot volume is getting pretty close to elite but the 3P% needs to come up another tick or two.
To add to that, when the 1 man who is the most responsible for keeping your offensive system alive gets hurt, no, I'm not talking about VanVleet, I'm talking about Adams, and what is most strange about that is he doesn't have any offensive skills, then you are really working with a weak system. The entire design of the offense is to get second chance points and allow Sengun to be Senhub. No Adams and the offense crumbles.
If you take that many it’s hard to get % up, one because if you take that many the defense plans against it and is their focus , two—you’re not going to have set good open 3pt shots at that clip so most are defended off the dribble
The truth bomb in this post leveled the arena so bizarre in putting a time limit on it…he clearly hates the guy
Of course, both volume and 3P% matter. Just saying he's not quite there yet on the combination of the two. But he's only in year 2, so if he improves just a little bit as he matures, which is a reasonable expectation, he could well become an elite shooter.
He averages 0.9 FT per game. He’s still not aggressive enough with the ball in his hands. He’s afraid of contact and he’s hesitant to dribble into the paint. This needs to change in order for him to reach his full potential. I can live with the mistakes and turnovers if he’s being aggressive and trying to create for himself and others. I think the coaches and his teammates want him to be more aggressive, he’s just not doing it yet. He’s made a big leap this season. But, he still has significant upside.
Let's see how he handles starting and how the team does in the next two weeks. Personally, I believe we're going to see Reed breakout soon and that will elevate the entire team. Ime will be congratulated for adjusting the lineup, when he actually should have made the move months ago.
It is absolutely bizarre Ime specifically cited a rough time frame for Reed starting. He just can’t help himself.
Over the last 13 games: Reed leads the entire league in 4th Q minutes Has played 32 mpg Is 5th on Rockets in Clutch minutes (starter minutes) Hell, for the entire year, he’s 5th in 4th Q minutes for the Rockets (starter minutes) But, yeah, Coach hates him unless he starts
if you filter at least 5 3 point attempts he's in the top 20 and 40% is considered elite right? https://www.nba.com/stats/players/traditional?CF=FG3A*GE*5:GP*GE*50&TeamID=0&dir=A&sort=FG3_PCT
Ime still hates Reed, folks. He made this move in order to ensure Reed has no shot at Sixth Man of the Year. I kid, I kid.
I don't have an issue with how much Ime is playing Reed. I have more of a problem with how Ime was utilizing Reed until last night. To me, the lineup of Reed / Amen / Durant / Bari / Sengun with Eason as a sixth man makes so much sense. Bari and Reed spacing, Amen operating from the dunker's spot once the set is initiated, Sengun and Durant playing off each other, Eason taking more of an offensive role with the backups. All of it makes sense. Conversely, I think the Amen / Eason / Durant / Bari / Sengun lineup with Reed as a sixth man is awkward. It minimizes Eason to a 3 and D guy who hasn't been hitting 3s, and Reed seems like the type who plays better with good offensive players around him, not to mention Reed's spacing elevates Durant, Amen, Sengun, and Bari's offensive games. Eason, on the other hand, can handle being the go-to guy on offense with the backups. In short, Reed's skillset seems to balance out the starters perfectly, and Eason's skillset appears tailormade for a Sixth Man of the Year candidate.
Without a true point guard, Houston believes it can scheme around deficiencies at the position, according to an assistant, who said the Rockets could draw up plays that make Amen Thompson more effective offensively, while manipulating schemes to protect defensive liability Reed Sheppard on the other end. https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id...son-final-month-giannis-jayson-tatum-more#hou
Reed still gambles way too much. Contrary to most his defense wasn’t good last game. I support Udoka on trashing on Reed for that crap, it’s fixable and he continues to gamble anenswipe stupidly. I being this up because amen can’t make up for that
It’s interesting though since we have seen both of these things to be true in terms of that espn article. They’re starting Reed and they’re also using Amen more on offense. Both can be very good for this team moving forward. Sheppard can’t handle bigger more physical guards and that’s a fact. But his ability to stretch the floor helps this team.
Something to keep an eye on: Tari did sub in for Reed 4 minutes into the game, both 1 and 3 qtr. (technically he subbed for Sengun in 1st Q, but Sengun subbed in for Reed 20 seconds later after ATL TO). that indicates wanting to stagger Reed with one of the starters for offensive reasons, still consistent with him playing off the bench. 4 minutes with full starters isn’t really a huge difference, vs a Ginobili-type role. So, as a starter it’s more like how MDA staggered Harden and Paul. Paul would get subbed out 4-5 minutes too, so he was fresh when JH sat. but, that could change. He could play an actual starter role and go a full 8 minutes or so from the start.
