In my life, I’ve never seen a cult of personality in the United States like this. I’m a history nerd, so I’m aware of this happening before and elsewhere….but I wanted to believe we wouldn’t fall to that. Man, was I wrong. I don’t know anything about him evading the draft, and don’t much care. I enjoyed his song as a child, liked to sing it, and I hum it even to this day. It’s a catchy song.

I think it’s good to be proud of one’s country when it upholds the ideals that it professes. The bully tactics of the current administration, antagonizing friend and foe alike, lack of planning or respect for the views of not only our allies but the American people as well — this is not something I can be proud of. I’m just hoping things aren’t beyond repair when the clock runs out on the administration.
