Following yesterday’s posters, the first trailer has arrived for Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Three” opening in December. The film will be based on 1969’s “Dune Messiah” novel. The new film begins seventeen years later with Paul Atreides (Chalamet) ruling as Emperor, married to Princess Irulan (Pugh), while maintaining a relationship with his concubine, Chani (Zendaya). Forces plot against him, including the Bene Tleilax – an arcane, xenophobic sect of genetic manipulators who traffic in biological products. Villeneuve says the film will tonally lean more into a thriller and also feature more action than the previous two films. The film stars Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, Jason Momoa as a new version of Duncan Idaho, and Robert Pattinson as Scytale. The project marks Chalamet and Villeneuve’s last foray into this universe. The project, primarily shot on 65mm film stock, also has sequences shot in 15/70mm IMAX film. Scenes in the desert, of which there are plenty, were shot in IMAX Digital. “Dune: Part Three” is slated to release in cinemas on December 18th 2026. First trailer is out.....
Cant seem to figure it out but after watching the trailer, I have a strong urge to watch this in IMAX on LSD for some reason.... Anybody else?
Interesting they are going head to head with Doomsday. I guess they are trying to have another Barbenheimer weekend. Dunesday I guess they’ll call it. The trailer looks impressive as hell imo. I take it that Denis is taking significant liberties to deviate from Messiah which I’m actually excited about. I trust they’ll do a good job of sticking the landing since Denis imo is probably the best director out there right now. And that Hans Zimmer score…. Damn. If you missed Dune 2 in Imax I feel sorry for you. I’d see it just for the soundtrack and the amazing visuals.
It’s dumb. Oppenheimer and Barbie are two distinct demos. Doomsday and Dune have some pretty big overlap. I guess they’re banking on holiday ticket uptick. I would have launched Dune 3 either in the summer or the Friday before Thanksgiving week.
I hope they found a way to shoe in anti ICE and Trump message.... It's what I like to see when I go see a movie.... It's more important than plot...
tbh with how schit he has been I wouldn't even cringe at a woke anti trump message. He's that far gone ticket prices will probably be 50$ in yuan by then lmao
I`ve never seen one in IMAX but I was watching an interview with Ryan Gosling for Project Hail Mary and he said you have to see this movie in IMAX so I am going to, and Dune 3 looks like the same
I would be stunned if Dune 3 doesn't blink first and move off to Thanksgiving or (not my ideal choice) early next year. No way these movies should open on the same date. They would cannibalize each other.
Why would the cannibalize each other? Both are going to be sold out on opening weekend. Also, they announced this months ago and it seemed intentional. I believe the logic was to keep the movie fresh for the Oscars and each of these movies somewhat different categories.
Not everyone will go see both movies in the theater if released on the same day. Space them out a few weeks and there's more of a chance people will head also to Dune 3 (let's face it, Avengers will be the bigger hit; Dune 3 will be more cerebral).
Barbenheimer was an event where couples went to the movies together and the man went to Dune and the woman went to Barbie. The demographic was split. Dune/Doomsday has a much bigger Venn diagram overlap. It's probably more of an age difference issue than anything else with older more sophisticated nerds skewing towards Dune. If a nerd has to choose one movie, they're probably going to go to Doomsday and catch Dune 3 later. Here are some Venn diagrams from Gemini:
Yes, I get all that. Why does any of this matter to me as a moviegoer? What is preventing people from watching both movies? It's not like there's 2 untelevised live events at the same time and you can only go to one.
I said it- If a nerd has to choose one movie, they're probably going to go to Doomsday and catch Dune 3 later. Most people aren't rich and single like you, sir. They got real problems like the price of fillet-o-fish.
Then space it out over a couple of weeks...like yall were suggesting. Not like either of them are leaving the theaters in a hurry. Also, if you are in any way worried about a fillet-o-fish you have bigger problems than what movie to watch. I can't imagine a more disguising fast food sandwich.
