The Middle East in many ways is divided into Saudi Arabia and Iran as the two large Arab powers.

The rest of the Middle East tends to fall in line behind one of those two.

Even Israel, which is very unpopular in the region because of Palestine, has covert allegiances with Saudi Arabia based on their mutual distrust of Iran and the terrorism that both support and at times, fund.

UAE has a vested interest in the weakening of the Iranian regime, because of terrorism and stability issues that Iran undermines.

As a result, UAE is a close friend of Saudi Arabia. Both countries want stability and want to be able to enter into the wider geopolitical landscape, which Iran undermines. But it is complicated because there are a lot of Iranian business interests in UAE.

The UAE has traditionally been too friendly to the West for Iran. UAE let a French military base be built, and over time there has been a lot of cultural exchanges between the UAE and the West.

Iran wants to end that - so they supported the Houties and their terrorism. UAE has tried to play the middleman in some ways over the last decade, they condemned the US bombing of Iran last year for example -- but Iran wants UAE to take a definitive side.

The attacks in UAE were supposedly already planned in the case of an Israel or US invasion prior to the conflict.

Iran does not want a traditional war, they have 90 million people but many millions of others in Iraq and across the Middle East that are supporters, either because of Western/Israeli interference, cultural or just historical.

UAE and that region of the Middle East had done a good job of separating itself from the war, instability and sectarian violence. The actions by Iran in response to the USA entry into an entirely unnecessary war has undone some of the nation building and reputation built up by UAE. I will be curious to see what the long term fall out is.

I have to think at some point in the next 5 years, we will finally see the USA cut back their military actions in the Middle East, as this Iranian attack has made Israel more toxic to Americans.

Always odd when you see one of these Republicans stand up from the cuck chair and try to regrow their spine. Even in this letter though, he’s careful not to fully blame Trump, but instead Israel’s hypnotic tactics of persuasion or whatever. But, it’s better than nothing.

Then you have subs like Rubio getting put through Caligula-style humiliation trials just to amuse Trump.

I hate Iran and the fact we started a war with them. I think Tump is an idiot but as an American, I hope we can take out enough leadership where a regime change can occur. Maybe the only way there is an uprising is if they see that the leadership is vulnerable and weak. I know middle eastern cultures respect force and power. I don't know the answer but I hope there a way out of this that benefits us.

There are Arabs In Iran - but yes they are a majority Persian.

Does not really change anything for the purposes of what I said, concerning the Middle East.

Assyrians are not Arabs either - but they refer to themselves as Arabs.... it is more of a geographical distinction, or at least that is how they have explained it to me.

No worries, just nitpicking. They are all Muslims but arabs speak Arabic, Iranians do not. The bigger issue is shia vs. sunni...

Most of the sunni VS shiite infighting is with the hardcore zealots. I'm sunni and my wife is a prominent shiite and we've never had any sort of issue. The overwhelming majority of our beliefs are the same.

Yes, most Iranians speak Persian. I believe it is actually the formal language, but there are Iranians that speak Kurdish, Aramaic, Azeri and Arabic.

I have met a lot of Iranians that are polytheistic or agnostic and wish that Iran had remained polytheistic and not Islamic. Granted most of these were Iranians that left Iran.

I was not really at all familiar with Kent, but from some of the old stuff I've read he's always been EXTREMELY anti-Israel and he's kind of a conspiracy nut and has carried water for trumps J6 lies etc.. Like maybe he's not quite Nick Fuentes but he's in the same orbit - that same sort of Proud Boys toxic bro masculinity.

So it's not like a HUGE break from being the guy he's always been.

Not saying he's wrong here, but even a broken clock is right twice a day, and his ideology is the worst kind of "everything different is evil" nativism.

Not a step up from klepto-Trump.

Shut the fck seriously. You're the most shameless loser on these forums. You spent your entire life spamming the Ukraine thread crying how awful war is and now the guy you voted for is in a full blown hot war costing American lives

I’ve seen it take place where I live, it would basically redraw lines in society that replace left/right and the would be healthy. It would also highlight the incompetence of those in charge of it, which is great.

Ultimately I don’t think I can fully get behind sending people to PTSD and TBI just to teach them a lesson, but something inconvenient should happen if the country is going to war.
