@PWR nice add to thread. You would think a good coaching staff would note these discrepancies and shift the minutes to the better rotation.
I don't think FVV is inherently slow. He's just more cautious. That's why he is low TO. And he has the most secure handle among all our players. He can share the PG duty with Reed. Let's face it, it's very unlikely that we will get rid of him next season. So might as well put him in best use. If we are moving Amen to the wing, which I really hope, then I'd rather have FVV than Holiday to play with Reed.
**** that bullshit, udoka wont ever play again, he is a terrible coach. Lean into talented players let fake tough guy coaches with fake integrity hit the bricks. DD
Tillman is not swallowing the contract. Udoka is salivating at Fred coming back and despite what Reed says he knows he deserves to start . I don’t see the same fire iff the bench
I think Stone is heavily invested in Reed. The main reason he didn't go out to get a PG replacement after FVV went down was that he wanted Reed to step in. That's one thing I suspect there's a disconnect between Stone and Udoka. Udoka clearly trusts FVV much more than Reed, even after Reed has shown his potential. I am quite sure that if FVV was healthy this season, Reed's minutes would probably be lower than 20 mpg.
There are times when Reed's defense still gets picked on pretty horribly, like against the Spurs when he just couldn't stay in front of their guards to save his life. I'm sure that's intolerable for Udoka given his tendencies. There are other times though when his defense is... fine?
Back to back bad games from him but he got some stocks. He’s absolutely lost his shooting touch again
Udoka has been very cautious to make sure Reed is in the game with defenders. I highly doubt that Udoka would think a healthy FVV could not be on the floor defensively with Reed.
Issue isnt the coaching staff its management. Sengun doesn't fit with Reed/KD. They are both minus defenders and struggle to beat their man off the dribble (something one Jalen Green actually didn't struggle with of all things). JG/FVV/DB fit Sengun a lot more than this team. The other day vs the Spurs, it was obvious that Ime was making it a point to leave Sengun out there to get rotisserie fried by their guards. And he did. Over and over again. He's essentially Jalen Green 2.0. Not that guy but need to maintain his trade value so we can get a decent return for him. So we're hella boned this year unless FVV makes a miracle comeback and somehow fixes everything.
I don't think Udoka would start Reed with FVV at the beginning. Reed would have to earn his minutes by showing how much he could add to the offense despite some defensive issues. I am not sure if he could do that in long stretches with limited minutes.
Reed has already earned his minutes, and Udoka is demonstrating this by playing him more than the other bench players and even 1 starter. Adding FVV would not push Reed behind the guys Reed is already ahead unless Udoka does not think FVV is good enough defensively. Udoka has no issue playing Reed with Holiday, other than that, Holiday is only an okay NBA player. Double bigs, pocket rockets....I just don't see Udoka hung up on size of the player. Granted, I doubt FVV will be 100% healthy next season, and I just don't think the Rockets will be the same next year. Not sure who the Rockets acquire, but I expect the Rockets to start building a biridge by adding someone that would play with KD next season, but also play with whoever is left post-KD.
