I would love to see the Astros steal more bases this year - especially after walks. The anemic offense would look so much better if every walk turned into a runner in scoring position. We're leaving so many runs on the table, as evidenced by our consistently bad LOB percentage.
Stealing bases is awesome - but they have to be good at it. It is one of the ways to capitalize on undervalued assets. The Astros certainly have the athletes to do it with their younger guys - but they have actually get on base first.
Unrelated, but how is (former Bearkat) Walker Janek coming along? Any chance he sees any action with the big league club before 2027?
That Ethan Frey opposite field homeruns looked like he barely swung. The kid looks to have Yordan power
Ullola gave up 2 bombs including one for 471 feet. That’s a moon shot. In Ullola’s defense, the guy that hit it is 4 for 4 this spring with 4 dingers.
I know it’s spring training but kind of worrisome literally no one is hitting the ball well for us. Was hopeful at least one of the young OFers would be doing well.
The good news is Cole finally got his first hit of spring training. The bad news is that no one else did and most of our starters were playing. Our pitching looks good so I think we are going to be good shape there.
I feel like Unroe and Trammell are on track to make the opening day roster. Lefthanded bats with defensive value playing well this spring. Add to it that none of the young players seem to be claiming a job. Current prediction for position players: 2B Altuve 3B Paredes DH Alvarez SS Correa 1B Walker C Diaz RF Smith CF Meyers LF Cole Bench: Unroe, Salazar, Allen, Trammell IL: Pena Optioned: Whitcomb, Dezenzo, Matthews, Loperfido
Pena hurt and Correa already with the weird ailments, this is why it trading Paredes was always stupid from the jump. With the history of this team and the players we have, trading from a position of depth shouldn't even be a thought.
