The issue is $$$$. If you just flood an area with businesses it'll just push the poor people somewhere else. You have to address poverty.

Men are abandoning their children, men commit high rates of violent and sexual crimes, men are the ones that are making the decisions.......... and if we are going to make changes, we need to acknowledge that men, especially white men - built this sinking ship.

Women deserve a chance to have a large influence in the future.

IMO you have to have people with "skin in the game" and (I am not sure this is possible) but find people who are not interested in power or making money, but they do it because they want THEIR community to thrive. Get the politics out of Urban Planning, but I am not sure that's possible.......Get the Ken Paxton`s of the world out, he doesn't care about you or I, he only cares about himself. The other huge obstacle is you have competing priorities for the people in every community, you cant please everyone and some people will be left pissed off.

 

It's funny, because building OUT instead of UP is what is now eating that tax-basis. Boomers (and probably the next oldest generation and the next and next) will leverage the future for a quick buck NOW.

Gentrification is the real answer to how to improve cities. It has worked over and over again.

 

After we deal with a few major cities, maybe we can turn our attention to the dozen horribly run Republican STATES across the south.

That's true; give people a reason to move back to cities, create a supply shortage, real estate values go up, people who can afford a higher lifestyle, who are usually more responsible, move in. Of course, there is a percentage of people who stay...and are homeless. Now what?

Pharaoh's ruled for what, 2000 years? The Chinese, Indus, Persians, Mongols? None-white dudes have dominated this planet historically. What really built this sinking ship is that we are all just animals (apex predators on our planet), in a survival of the fittest food chain, competing for limited resources in a failing ecosystem.
