Why can’t we resign both Springer & Brantley?

    But yet they do it, casualty insurance is a fun gamble. Nobody knows about Verlander's situation, though.

    Springer is gone. Bring Brantley back. Sign/Trade a starter and reliever that Strom can work with.

    No idea who plays CF next year

    The tax is only on the overage amount, right?

    so if the threshold is 210 million and we spend 230 million, it would be 30% of 20 million, which is 6 million, right?

    Yes. If not for the pandemic and Verlander's injury, I think the team would take on that tax in 2021 and just worked to get under for 2022.

    When teams say they don't want to pay the tax, what they mean is that don't want to pay the tax plus the amount over the tax...or the $26 million in your scenario.

    Don't forget that there are draft pick penalties as you go further above the threshold...
