next time i see one of these youngins meddling with their phones during a show ima whackem with my cane...
Ok, I decided to sample some FGL because of your impassioned responses and I will admit, they do nail country. Your example and their popularity with the urban cowgirls threw me off. I was wrong, pappa. Skynyrd is Southern Rock, though.
Kid Rock, Leonard Skynyrd? That is not country. And why in the hell are you dissin Willie and Waylon?
Been watching Country Music the Burns doc and I did not realize I knew so many country songs. Some of them keep getting stuck in my head especially the Hank Williams ones. Never listened to the lyrics of that song Jolene, that was a bad b****. LOL.
First concerts were Willie Nelson's 4th of July Picnic 1977 with my mom and KISS the same year with cousins. My musical taste has been all over the board my whole life. I've been to more concerts than I can remember and a bunch of the shows mentioned in this thread. Best single day of music I've witnessed was 1992 Lollapalooza Main Stage: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ministry, Ice Cube, Soundgarden, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Pearl Jam, Lush. Side Stage: Jim Rose Circus Sideshow, Sharkbait, Archie Bell dancers, Porno for Pyros, Basehead, Cypress Hill, House of Pain, Sweaty Nipples, Arson Garden, Seaweed, Seam, Smashing Pumpkins, Green Magnet School, Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E., The Look People, Stone Temple Pilots, The Vulgar Boatmen, NIN, I still love live shows and have tickets to the following Willie Nelson at White Water Amphitheater 4/17 Rolling Stones at COTA May 24 Primus at ACL live 5/29 (Tribute to Kings Tour) Ministry @ House of Blues Houston (Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste 3 Year anniversary tour with KMFDM)
kid rock lives in a doublewide trailer in tennessee, drinks beer and supports trump. willie lives in a mansion in hawaii, smokes weed and supports beto. which one sounds more country to you?
So what? Are you actually trying to say Willie Nelson is not country or that Kid Rock does not smoke weed?
Thinking about being at an Aerosmith concert ('76-'78) when the lights would go down, curtain covering the front of the stage, and they would CRANK up the screeching music from "Psycho". Curtain falls and they open with "Back in the Saddle". I'm BAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK......." Damn those are great freaking memories!!!
May have to stick around and hang out in this thread, fun discussion. If you’re a Les Claypool fan then you know my avatar. I just bought Faith No More tickets for August here in Phx, going to be a scorcher since it’s at an amphitheater. They come to Houston 8/23...but then I’m a big Mike Patton fan.
Just saw them at the Park MGM on their residency Deuces are Wild. I thought for sure Tyler was going to fall off the stage. They were very clanky during a few songs but Kramer was already gone from behind the kit so that was probably why. The production value was awesome though in such a small area.
I’ll never get sick of hearing these stories. You experienced things that a lot of us wish we could have. I’ve been to or have been a part of well over 1000 shows and loved every second of it, even when I didn’t. oh man do I have some stories.
I was at that Lollapolooza. Pearl Jam was the second band on and I remember EV climbing to the top of the stage and jumping off onto I believe a semi truck. They were nothing short of amazing that show. I felt like Ministry stole the show, they were mindblowingly good and had all kinds of guests on stage. Ice Cube was really good, but so was everyone that day. Just an amazing lineup across the board. side note: I knew Jim, lizard and Lifto a bit. Jim Rose is kind of an ass and he hates kids. I met him and lizard first, I sold them some clothes before one of their shows. Loved their show in the early to mid 90’s
I’m a huge Primus/Claypool fan. I’ve seen about every tour and every variation of side project he’s done over the years since the sailing the seas of cheese tour. HUGE fan.
when Eddie was climbing all on the stage he yelled out, “hope you haven’t taken all your acid yet”:.. and mine Was just starting to hit me! I was like WTF he’s talking to me! ministry was great that day, he’ll they all were.
I'm originally from the SF Bay Area and we had huge concerts called "Day on the Green" that were held in places like the Oakland Coliseum. Day and night long concerts with four or more name acts. I only went to two: Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Loggins and Messina, Renaissance and The Police, The Fixx, Madness, Oingo Boingo, Wall of Voodoo, and The Thompson Twins. This is what they looked like...
I love it when a band gets it right with the introduction. There really is no other feeling like you get when the lights go down before a really great show. It's intoxicating. I remember seeing my first Rush show back in high school. They dimmed the lights and played the theme to Looney Tunes and then seamlessly went right into the opening riff to Spirit of Radio. 35 years later and I can still remember that feeling of total exhilaration I had when that riff started. All the waiting was finally over and the show was ON. Still gives me chills!
The only time they did stadiums was during the Sonic Temple days -- I think Lenny Kravitz opened for them after the Metallica shows.
NIN Halloween night 1994 did this for me. I believe it was at the Summit. They came on and Trent yells “STEP RIGHT UP” and they go into March of the Pigs, It was total chaos. Everyone in the seats rushed down into the pit. Neither barriers or cops could or did stop anyone from rushing up. It definitely left a mark that I’ll never forget. That show was so powerful and went off perfectly the whole night.
