IIRC, this was the case with Framber last year. Something like a 2 ERA difference between the two. One reason I was all, 'Not so fast,' when people were blithely waving away losing 3/5th of the starting pitching with, "We can just plug in Framber and McHugh, and Whitley will be up soon." And then they picked up Miley, and it got all better... Nice to see Greinke is starting to be Greinke again.
felt like the shift really hurt the Astros in the first inning. Every hit was a single into an area vacated by the shift. Anomaly?
Oh well. We’ve been on the other side far more than not. They deserved me sticking this out. I was glad to.
Lol at AJ challenging a call down 21-7 with 1 out in the 9th. Is he picking up Jake or just flipping off this game? I say yes. Edit: Lol at Blum being unreservedly salty about that replay call and then saying he's probably going to get a call for it...and not sounding like he cares.
I was just thinking for a minute like so many fans have been..."who needs a bullpen, we just use starters like LMJ/Morton/Peacock/etc..." I don't see that as an option this postseason. Bullpen has got to be a proper bullpen.
Since his disastrous game as an opener, Rondon has appeared in 18 games, pitched 19.1 innings and has an ERA of 1.40 and a WHIP under 1.00.
That's awesome. He has a 4.20 ERA and a 1.467 WHIP in the playoffs. His K/9 this season is also down to a career low of 6.9.
The arrogance and brutality of the Astros did not go unnoticed by the baseball gods. Their recent vulgar displays of power demanded immediate restitution. The Wade Miley problem is officially a problem. I can't say with confidence he's our best option for a game 4. And I say that knowing the lackluster alternatives.
I have noticed this improvment. At least Rondon has the ability to make batters miss the ball. The Chris Devinskis and Joe Biaginis of the world are elite batting practice pitchers right now.
The Astros need Peacock back and healthy in the worst way. They don't need an incredible fourth starter in the playoffs; they just need a guy who can eat 4-5 innings without getting hammered to hand it to the bullpen and give the offense a chance. If it's not Miley, he has to be that guy.
From the chronicle on Miley’s pitching woes... “The White Sox stayed inside the baseball more than most of his earlier opponents. The lineup struck opposite-field hits at will and beat the Astros' aggressive shifts. A pattern began and it has not ceased. An inability to adjust now leaves Miley searching for answers that, after another abysmal outing on Tuesday, he still did not have.” We saw this again last night. MLB has a great book on Miley and Astros need to make an adjustment. We need Miley to at least go 4 inning in the playoffs.
