After the first game, we just had to many mental errors. Respect last years Red Sox team but we didn’t expect their pitching staff and hitters to turn into the 98 Yankees sweeping us in Houston. They weren’t better than us and we got our butts handed to us.

I think the 2018 Astros were a better team top-to-bottom than the 2017 Astros...... It's all timing and some luck along the way in the playoffs. The blue-print is win your division... and then you have a legit shot.

I think the 2019 Astros are better than the 2017 and 2018 Astros.

They certainly didn’t underestimate them. You seriously think they went out there and said “we’re better than them, we don’t have to play that hard”?

No....Toro fielded a ball that barely stayed fair behind the third base bag and managed to throw the guy out, very nice play.

The Astros last year had Altuve and Correa playing with major injuries that drastically impacted their production. The pitching staff had injuries as well.

That was the largest reason the Astros lost to the Red Sox. Also don’t forget that Red Sox team won 108 games.

That’s right it was fair, I was thinking it was just foul.

Astros back to having a 9 1/2 game lead over Oakland (same lead they had going into that last Oakland series), the #1 seed in the AL via the tie breaker, and one game back of LAD. A very good week/weekend.

Red Sox were clutch that series. For a team that had a 0.710 OPS that series, they scored a lot of runs.

2 out rallies... JBJ with several big hits... and whoever was playing catcher (Leon or Vasquez) seemed to always be able to find a way on base.

Yep. Astros were unclutch as well. Kemp was on base half the time for the games once he was starting. Only time he scored was when he hit himself in. For a guy batting in front of Springer (who seemed to be taking turns with Kemp on getting on base), Altuve, and Bregman, this was just weird. Kemp's base running didn't help.

Worst attempted haiku I've seen since @J.R.'s a few weeks ago.

eta: I just got home from the weekend and am scared to go look in the Texans forum (or the D/D). Was thinking there might be some happy news in here.

    The Astros swept the Angles.

A AAA arm pitched like Cy Young to win the finale.

Yordan in BP put a hurting on the Jumbo Tron.

Verlander can relate. He ranks second in the sport in innings (178.2), second in homers allowed (33) and seventh in ERA (his 2.78 mark is just a tick ahead of Kershaw’s 2.76). Of his 57 runs allowed, 40 have been off homers, a 70-percent clip.

    https://theathletic.com/1162328/201...and-presents-a-puzzle-for-october/?=twittered

I knew homers accounted for a large percentage of runs off Verlander, but 70% is crazy for a guy with a 2.78 ERA.
