Pelosi has been trying to put create some distance from this progressive wing to avoid losing heartland seats out of moderates' fear of socialism. By throwing a bomb in the middle, he forces Pelosi to rhetorically embrace that wing again to denounce his racism. We can see his 2020 campaign strategy already, and it'll include trying to make the Democrats own the positions of their most liberal members. There will be a hefty dose of scare-mongering about how AOC is going to make us all wear hemp underwear and surrender our children to communes, regardless of who the actual candidate is. I don't feel confident saying this was a bad tactic for Trump unless and until he actually loses the election.

Now let's see some logical consistency @BruceAndre. When a white dude says "America has done worse" when asked to comment on a foreign autocrat's atrocities, is that white man "hating America"? Or can only brown people hate America?

 

No one else has the "nads" because it is overtly racist to tell minority groups who are US citizens to "go back home". It's such an old and tried phrase against minority citizens in this country. I've been in the recieving end and many people I know who are ethnically not white have had those type of "go home" comments thrown at them.

It's absolutely disgusting that now the US president resorts to such obviously racist tropes.

Trump does not think ahead. But everyone, me included, sometime analyze the effect of what he said / does as if it’s some grand strategy. There is none. If there is one, it’s by nature accidental and not some thought out game plan.

There isn’t really a need to overthink any of this. He’s a moron that does moronic stuff. Let him shoot his own feet and take full calm cold calculated political advantage of it against him and all of the GOP. Getting overly reactive yourself is what get you in the same shoe and in trouble.

Ps as for Pelosi, you can play both games. Unite against trump and the silent coward GOP while disagreeing internally on what positions the party should take.

 

Imagine if he was smart enough to "push" back against ideological disagrements with nuance rather than racist tropes. Probably would have convinced some centrists using that method.
