Copa America Quarterfinals start tonight with Brazil vs Paraguay. Tomorrow will be Venezuela vs Argentina and Colombia vs Chile. Then on Saturday, it’s Uruguay vs Peru.
For whatever reason we are not seeing Bobby Wood or Weah, Sargent and a few others, I think our depth is fine just the quality beyond 13 is not in this camp. DD
Bobby Wood has been terrible for 2 years now. He's not an option unless there's a bunch of injuries. Yes, there's some potential in the youth up front. Don't confuse potential with depth. If WC qualifying were going right now, I'd be concerned. We'll know a lot more about 2022 and 2026 when the Olympic Qualifying tournament happens in October. If we miss a 3rd consecutive Olympics, things are not as bright and cheery for the future as we'd like to hope. Qualifying for this tournament should be US Soccer's main focus once the Gold Cup is over. If it means bringing in Pulisic, they should do it.
Argentina advances to the semifinal round. It sets up the big rivalry showdown between Brazil and Argentina battling for a spot to the Copa America championship final.
Berhalter is not going to be long for this world (of international soccer). You can't make the decisions he's making and expect anything other than mediocrity at best. Why would he adjust the US's game to Curacao? Make them adjust to our game. We're the (theoretically) better team. Putting Omar Gonzalez in for a midfielder (albeit one that was doing absolutely nothing on the day) to sit back as if you just took a 1-0 lead against France? What in the entire f*** is that? Yes, survive and advance. But you're playing a country that has the population roughly the size of Pasasdena. You don't sit back for them. You push them until they crater. And then you score some more just to be sure. If he's going to play scared against everyone and not practice what he's been preaching (pressing high and possession), we are not going to qualify for 2022.
Some big matchups tonight. Copa America semifinal: Brazil vs Argentina, 7:30 pm central time on Telemundo and ESPN Plus. Gold Cup semifinal: Mexico vs Haiti, 9:30 pm central time on Fox Sports 1 and Univision.
Just wait until Sunday. 3 major tournament finals in one day...which I will say is a bulls^%& move by FIFA. They should've forced CONCACAF and COMNEBOL to change their final to Saturday or Monday. The World Cup deserves it's own day, period. Yes, I'm including the Gold Cup as a major tournament. Technically that is correct as it is a confederation tourney final.
