I’m not saying you have straw too low, but after seeing his eye and contact skills I’m going to say he might have the highest floor on that entire list. Literally as long as his wheels don’t fall off he’s a guaranteed 4th OF and destructive base running specialist late inning defensive replacement. You can imagine all sorts of scenarios where all the other guys have worse career than that.
Agree with this. Too many ways he can contribute. He’s his own offensive force if he can just keep his OBP up. Contact and discipline will keep him in the league for a long time.
And even if he can’t keep his obp up, with the 26th roster spot coming up and it having to be a position player he doesn’t even need to own batting gloves, he could be valuable as a PR and defensive replacement late.
Pretty amazing, considering he was dreadful for 25 of those games in April this year. Luhnow even liked that tweet; Tucker will not be traded. Even if he halves his production in the majors, here are the OF who had 22+ HR and 17+ SB last season: Trout Yelich Betts That’s the whole list.
The Astros officially moved Johangel Ramirez from the DSL to the GCL. Ramirez pitched 1 game for the DSL team and was bad, but he was one of the two notable pitchers the Astros signed last July. The other one was never put on the DSL roster. So unless these moves are just procedural, it's possible the Astros have decided to immediately move both their top pitchers stateside. Probably shouldn't look to heavily into it at least until the GCL roster is updated, but it's something interesting i noticed. Also, Tri-city has an exhibition game tomorrow, and with no one from the draft being officially signed, they have 7 players on the roster.
They probably have enough guys to get thru the exhibition: C: Perry, Paulino IF: Carrasco, Cueta, Mendoza, Urdaneta, Perez, Pineda OF: Santana, Martinez, Ramirez P: Macuare, Schroeder, Robaina, Ramirez, Jimenez, Jaquez, Lopez, Figueroa That said, I bet a few draftees have actually already signed and will be in TC in time.
Yeah, I'm sure with the GCL starting a while from now, they can have those kids fill in as needed, it's just funny to me to see a team scheduled to play tomorrow with not even enough players to fill out a lineup.
Enmanuel Valdez has hit a grand slam for Fayetteville. He now has five home runs on the season between the A teams (3 Quad Cities, 2 Fayetteville).
So, power and walks are what we were somewhat concerned about, right. Check mark on the first? On schedule?
Luis Garcia allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out six over five shutout innings for Fayetteville.
Yep. That, and his defense. Saw he had two errors (one fielding, one throwing). Looks like he's being groomed for 1B, so it makes sense that that's where he's getting nearly all his playing time at. Looks like the power is starting to show up at the AA level, which is awesome.
They published the TC roster for today’s game. They brought up a few outfielders and pitchers but otherwise it looks very close to what I posted. One interesting thing is that RHP Lupe Chavez, who was acquired years ago from Toronto, is on the roster.
