This is a counter thread to the tilman was right to pursue LTS

Let's look at the cost cutting moves specifically

    Knight for Shumpert
    - shumpert didn't do **** . We would be better off with knights contract as an expiring to flip next year along with picks for a better player

    Ennis for nothing
    - this is the one that gets me . Ennis was finding a niche off the bench . He brings hustle and athleticism . He proved he is a rotation caliber player , look at how well he has done in philly .

    House to g league
    - another cost saving move . We kept him in the g league when he was clearly playing at an NBA level . We did this to try and force him to sign long term , and to ensure we were under the tax . Do you not think an extra 20 games would have helped him build chemistry ?

While I think the main culprit of us getting outplayed is MDA . I think these three moves hurt us both this season and next year . We might be able to keep House after his shitty performance , but if he played better we might have won .

Despite some truly stupid play by us , the margin vs GS was super thin . IMO this is because harden is so great .

I think the situation the other thread describes "we weren't good enough anyways , tilman shouldn't pay the tax for a loser " just isn't true . We were right there and held our fate in our own hands . ANY additional help could have made the difference. Playing farried our house could have made a difference . Ennis could have made a difference .

We got outworked on the glass the last two games right ? Pj wanted Ennis here because he's a dog . We need every scraper we could get . We let him go for nothing to save money .

    Just my opinion

The fact is the Rockets were handed this series on a silver platter and they didn't take advantage. This was the epitome of choking. Plain and simple.

You can take this a step further …. Ryno.

Even if he gave you nothing on the court , his contract is expiring next season and you'd still have all those assets you used to shed him & the Knight/Chriss debacle.

Anderson's contract was best used as a financial tool along with other assets to bring in another star. Now , you don't have the contracts to absorb incoming salary nor any of the assets or you used to rid yourself of Anderson>Knight/Chriss = Nothing …. all in the name of Luxury Tax Savings.

Which they are already talking about avoiding next season …. when I thought the point of avoiding it was to be able to exceed it beyond this season and avoid being a repeater in CP3's final year.

Just imagine what you could go after with Ryno's contract this offseason or at the next trade deadline.
