The bar for ELITE catcher is MUCH lower than Elite OF. An ElIte OF could be .300 30 HRs 100 RBIs. For a catcher, .260 15 HRs 50 RBIs...if ge calls a good game. Ill take the OF everytime.
Not what I was expecting, but that is true. .260 15 HRs 50 RBIs is easier to find in an OF than C, plus you can always convert an IF/C to OF if you realy need one (not that we do, our OF depth is stacked IMO). Let's just agree to disagree, and I hope Chirinos/Stassi is just a stopgap until Stubbs is ready. I believe in him.
All 5 Houston starters listed among the top 121 SP (for fantasy, one dudes opinion, but still). A lot of folks hopping on the Josh James train. https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/justin-masons-top-121-starting-pitchers/
Kyle Tucker isnt ELITE. Stop kidding your self. He has proven nothing in the majors. Until then Kyle Tucker and ELITE dont belong in the same sentance.
Some people would rather be right about their opinion than have their team be successful. Are you really a fan of this team?! Might be time to put you on ignore.
They must not put much stock in the catching metrics (like BPro's FRAA), or they think they are better at teaching those skills than other orgs.
The claim isnt that he wont ever be, or cant be elite at the major league level. Its that there is no basis to say Tucker is an elite major league player right now.
Doesnt matter if itll age well or not. He ISNT elite at the moment, wtf dont you understand? jesus some of you guys are so blind.
I think this argument of whether the Astros should have dealt Tucker for Realmuto is far too narrow in focus. Tucker, like any other prospect or player, is currency that can be used to buy things. That is fact that begets multiple questions: - how much currency does Tucker represent? - is that more or less than Realmuto? - what other uses for the currency does Luhnow have on the board in the near, mid and long term. That is the lens through which all moves or non-moves should be examined. As fans, we don't have a full view but we can speculate, and it's fun to do so. My bet on how Luhnow sees things: - Tucker currency is greater or equal to Realmuto. Let's assume it's equal. - Tucker currency is better used in the next Verlander or Cole acquisition, if necessary. TOR SP is way more important and impactful. - Passage of time provides information, so in Texas hold'em parlance, its better to check/hold Tucker and turn over some cards. We will learn (i) whether our C's work out and (ii) what we have in McHugh, Miley, James, Framber, Whitley, Corbin etc. - We have to ask ourselves: what if Tucker could be used to get Grienke with AZ eating a crap ton of salary? How about Robbie Ray as the next Cole (incredible arm underperforming his talent)? What if NYM goes into the tank by all star break and they start selling SP? I'm making this stuff up as straw men for discussion, but we can rest assured that Luhnow has about 50 of these potential uses identified for Tucker currency. For all the folks who are furious we didn't deal Tucker (and change) for Realmuto - would you rather have Realmuto than a TOR pitcher?
In my mind, it is a question of short term (2 years of Realmuto) value vs potential long term (5+ years of Tucker).
Are we playing meaningful games right now? Why TF do we need them to be elite now anyways? This kid will have a Hunter Pence like ST and will lock down a starting spot in LEFT and you will come back to us and say you knew he was gonna be good all along.
Yeah it’s not hard. Tucker’s realistic value is between 0 and 25 WAR over the next 6+ seasons. Realmuto’s realistic value over the next 2 seasons is between 4 and 10 WAR. Realmuto was not worth Tucker. Hell, he wasn’t worth Sanchez either.
