This is their best team I've seen. I wonder what they could do against good competition if they played their guys like it mattered for all 4 quarters. 220-0, Cumberland-style? Probably not. I would bet they'd break 100 easy.
Grade 1 sprain for Sam per Herman. Bye week couldn’t come at a better time but think you have to get Rising some practice reps if Sam can’t go. Shane wasn’t awful but it’s a completely different offense with him out there.
Yes nobody is afraid of Shane running . And he makes really bad decisions when pressured like those interceptions. Yes he should have had two
Looked a lot like teams of years past unfortunately. Too much pressure on the QB, errant passes stalling drives, blocked punts, missed FGs, etc... Meant reps with the ones. Doubt this happens as I’m sure Herman will fully roll with Shane regardless.
MRI confirmed Grade 1 sprain. Texas moved up to #7 in AP. Not trying to pay too much attention to the polls but Michigan jumping us and 6 spots is somewhat surprising, LSU is understandable.
LSU and Michigan beating Alabama and Ohio St could be trouble for us if we win out. We might end up needing the Big 12 Championship and that extra game to make it in the playoffs. This is a purely academic argument. I don't think Texas is actually going to win out but it's fun that we can think about it.
Ya for sake of discussion, Notre Dame is the team to watch IMO. They don’t have another ranked opponent left nor a championship game. That last game vs USC could be very interesting.
At this point, there are 4 unbeatens. Texas' only chance would be for one or more of them to lose so LSU/Michigan beating Alabama/OSU works in our favor. In that scenario, I suspect a 1-loss Texas that wins the B12 would go above a 1-loss team that doesn't win a conference. Alabama would be tough to leave out given how good they look, but their schedule kind of sucks, so not sure how that plays out. USC winning out would be huge both to knock out an unbeaten and give us a huge non-conference win. Maryland being the first game of the season works in our favor as well. That said, I suspect OU is on a mission and would very much look forward to a rematch in a B12 title game if we do make it that far.
Neither Kansas or OSU are any good. Kansas is downright terrible and lost to ... Nichols State. If Texas is still struggling to beat those teams, they have made no progress at all - which is certainly possible, but then the premise of the argument is not even relevant. WVU, TTU and ISU are certainly tough games, though.
Update on Sam per 247: — Sam Ehlinger (throwing shoulder) is progressing well and is right on schedule. His pain is way down and his range of motion continues to improve. As it stands, the plan is for Ehlinger to pick up a ball Thursday to see how his shoulder feels. The training staff will continue to progress him throughout the week and weekend, and the goal is to see where he is come Sunday when the team starts game week practice.
