I know this is early and we do not know who may run in 2020 but I thought it would be interesting to see who has the most support from our left leaning members at the moment. I listed everyone I could think of so I am sure I missed a few. The poll is anonymous.
Beto will win Texas, then America. He will then turn the whitehouse bowling ally into a recording studio and Punk Rock will make a comeback.
No dude, I don't think you missed any real contenders, at least currently. I just don't really care for any of them. As a person who is as moderate as they come, my only real concern is getting the current embarrassment out of the White House.
I considered adding him but I do not think he would run in 2020 after losing the Senate race in Texas. He does have charisma and could definitely be a player in 2024 or later. He definitely has the charisma to be a future rock star for the Democrats but Texas is too red for him to win. I think he could further his political career quicker if he moved to a more blue state and run for governor or the Senate.
More early possibilities... Montana Gov. Steve Bullock, former HUD secretary Julian Castro, California Gov. Jerry Brown, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (Minn.), Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Sen. Jeff Merkley (Ore.), former Starbucks executive chairman Howard Schultz, Rep. Luis V. Gutiérrez (Ill.), New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, New York City Mayor Micheal Bloomberg, former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick..
I hope Beto goes for it. Kind of sucks he is in Texas. Very charismatic. Very hard campaigner. If Hillary went as hard as him she would have won.
Phil Knight might also be trolling the world to set up a 2020 bid. We could an actual successful business man.
Joe Biden would probably be the first and best choice. I think Kamala Harris would make a great VP. I think Elizabeth Warren would be a good choice but may remind people of HIllary too much. Rocket River
Interesting list. Can't imagine Julian Castro would run for President but I guess it's possible. I was hoping he would come home and make a run at Governor or Senator. I thought he was a great choice to go up against Cruz but Beto is doing a fantastic job. On Beto, I don't think he would but he's certainly setting him self up well for the future. Win this year and serve in the Senate to prepare for a possible run in 2028. I don't think there are any obvious candidates at this point. There's too many that would run strictly to beat trump and that is the wrong reason...but that's how you're going to have to run to get through the primary unfortunately.
...why is there no option for Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson? ...or "Deez Nutz" even...hell, that one got a whopping 1% of the last presidential electorate...
Sanders is too old. He's also too polarizing at this point. Booker has a good shot at winning the nomination but he comes off as a phony a lot of times. I mean, moreso than most politicians. The problem with Booker is this though, that he's just like another politician that I feel doesn't really stand for much, like Clinton. He's also been on the outs with the progressives of the party, which I think will play a big factor in the primaries. Warren I feel would be great. She's very popular with progressives but she's not a "Socialist" (although I'm sure she'll get called one, in fact, every candidate on this list will get that) and she clearly is passionate about regulation and bringing more power to everyday people. With that said, I don't know, I think she'd be a great VP, I think she'd look great on the ticket. Biden would be the best choice...if he were 8 years younger. I think Biden would wipe the floor with Trump though but in 2020 he'd be 77... Harris I feel is probably the one leading right now. A rising name and she hasn't really done anything to piss off progressives or moderate democrats, so there is that, at least not that I know of. Gillibrand...iunno, I don't think she offers much to the table when it comes to a presidential bid. Clinton is retired from politics and should enjoy the rest of her life. I think Klobuchar and Blumental may make a run for it. Eh, I'd want Warren to win but I don't think she will, I do hope she is the VP though since I think a more moderate Democrat will win, Warren will be a good bridge between the progressives and moderates of the party.
Booker is his own worst enemy. "Cory Booker seriously wants to be the next president, and right now, a day job in the Senate is a hindrance. For a while, the day job gave him a platform for publicity stunts, like fiercely denouncing the man he praised and cosponsored legislation with just two years earlier, or calling the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh “evil.” (Notice how quickly everyone forgot about that? These publicity stunts and over-the-top rhetoric are political junk food, with little-lasting effect or consequence.) "But serving in the Senate has now become a time commitment that keeps Booker away from where he wants to be: campaigning in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, etcetera before the small army of rival candidates descends upon those states. It’s also difficult to stand out in the Senate; right now at least six of Booker’s colleagues are also thinking about running in 2020: Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Kamala Harris of California, Jeff Merkley of Oregon, Bernie Sanders of Vermont, and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts. (Don’t feel bad, I had forgotten about Klobuchar and Merkley too.) *** "The problem for Cory Booker is that right now, there’s not a lot that makes him stand out from the rest of the Democratic field, particularly the other senators. Honest assessments of his time as mayor of Newark point out that “Booker cared more about the optics of a social media moment than actually delivering on basic city services” and “Newark has a steep climb before anyone deems it the model city Booker envisioned.” Democrats with long memories will recall the then-mayor defending private equity and taking intermittent potshots at the 2012 Obama campaign. His speeches drag on far too long, and he shouts them, convinced he’s leading a spiritual revival. Booker has always been a little too transparently ambitious, a little too shamefully self-promoting, a little too obviously bursting with self-regard." https://www.nationalreview.com/the-morning-jolt/i-am-schmuck-acus/ more at the link
