Thanks to that d-bag that made an extremely short-sighted and greedy decision to close down iconic AstroWorld, the city of Houston has had no theme park for 13 years. This is quite surprising especially in a city like Houston where there is no shortage of acres of cheap land and an extensive highway system. What's more is that the theme park business is booming. More people are spending time at theme parks because it's an experience that technology can't really replace. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...-s-universal-theme-parks-see-off-season-surge Houston has the market size (4th largest city in the USA), the ample supply of cheap land, the highway infrastructure, and no competition. There is or should be a strong business case for someone to build a theme park in the Houston area.
Maybe by 2030 Grand Texas theme park will be completed. http://www.grandtx.com/ Grand Texas is an entertainment, dining, and shopping destination under development on 630+ acres about nine miles north of Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport. When construction is complete, Grand Texas will comprise the Houston area’s largest amusement park, a waterpark, an outlet mall, a shopping and dining promenade, hotels, and more, providing the area’s biggest and best destination for the entire family.
That's called Adventure Pointe. Looks so bad. I don't think they even have their own website, just a facebook page. Much more like Kemah Boardwalk than a real theme park. I heard Earth Quest will be breaking ground any minute now... [\sarcasm]
I shouldn't be letting this out but my uncle works for Disney and they bought a bunch of land in Katy to develop a new park! I'm for serious!
I love these rumors. I've honestly been hearing them since I was about 12. What's funny is, a bunch of other cities have the exact same rumor!
Really? I've never heard that. Heard that it's been the subject of litigation that was still ongoing about a year ago...but not anything about the land being contaminated.
a universal studios theme park would be nice. Back to the future ride, titty twister lounge on halloween night!
in the 80's we had astroworld, waterworld and hanna-barbarra-land...which became splashtown. also, ive heard rumors about disney in katy for at least two decades now...would be awesome if it happened! i was just in freaking des moines (pop 214k) and even they have a theme park (adventureland) with a mini-version of the texas cyclone!
I'd have to ask my brother (he's a professional geologist and works for a company that does environmental testing and remediation) for the details again but, yes. Had to do with what was on the land prior to AstroWorld...but the park didn't do the land any favors either. IIRC, they would have to remove something like the top 5-8' of top soil to clear it.
Katy would be great. Keep the Katy people from coming into MY city on the weekends. Move rodeo out there too.
