That was really good. I'm hooked already. Looking forward to Season 2. I wonder what other shows from the 80's they could do this for as well. Better Off Dead is one I think would be cool.
it was clever how they applied to Cobra Kai ethos to nerds/misfits, and how they portrayed that ethos as having some merit (vs in the original where it was pure evil)
Just finished. I purposefully didn't binge watch because I wanted to stretch out the goodness as long as i could. This was really a great series. I like how they mixed in the comedy but not so much that it was a parody. Just enough to where it doesn't take itself too seriously. Perfect balance IMO. Can't wait for Season 2. Now......how do you cancel Youtube Red?
Fun Fact: Pat Morita (Mr. Miyagi) was 52 when Karate Kid came out. Johnny (William Zabka) is currently 52 and Daniel (Ralph Macchio) is 56.
Thoroughly enjoyed this series. My only problem? Spoiler It starts with Miguel being this good guy that gets bullied and just wants to learn how to defend himself. At the same time, Robby is a Jackhole who is doing drugs and trying to do anything to piss his dad off. So how by the end of this have their two roles completely reversed? I'm fine with Robby turning it around, but Miguel turning into a Bully? That didn't make much sense to me.
Spoiler He got cucked is what it is. I see it time and time again. A female will do that to a person, especially someone young as Miguel. Let's hope season 2, he gets back on track and do what is right. Beat Robby again and take Daniel's daughter, lol.
Finally got around to watching this while my wife is out of town, and wow it was amazing! This might be my favorite show since Stranger Things came out.
They did a great job of blurring the lines and allowing you to feel that through two generations. When I got to the end my first thought was they didn't do enough to show Robbie's transformation to allow me to root for him, which I think was true, and yet that I think was exactly the point. Show Johnny's side this time and only touch on Robbie. So I actually thought that was a stroke of genius. Good casting, funny. I think what worked is they had two characters so defined they could darken and lighten them a little, and yet bring them back to their roots. Having the near feel good ending most of us probably were enjoying, fit right in with Johnny's life, and then you see it crash, navigated perfectly.
Like the trailer and music. Despite the weirdness of the son going miagi doh in the first season, I like how it sets up an almost entirely unpredictable finale. You've got a somewhat likeable Kobra Kai and a somewhat unlikeable Miagi Doh. I really don't know who is going to win as it could go either way.
HOLY *** SH!TTTT!!! All your tv shows belong to COBRA KAI!!! GAME OF THRONE DOES NOT BELONG IN THIS DOJO!!
Think they cast the two guy fighters well, with the Kobra Kai kid as potential major movie star. The Miagi kid got a bad script and dialogue, but he'll resonate. Both girls seems like a stretch to me, but well see. The kid with the Mohawk seems a little stretch to me too, but I do like that he went deep end fast. I am interested to see where it goes. Love the Cruel Summer trailer and song. It felt powerful.
