Not sure what you watched last year. During the regular season, Giles was one of the top closers in baseball. The playoffs were a different story. Do you realize that July-September, Giles gave up runs in only three games? Do you realize of all AL relievers with 10+ saves, Giles had the second highest save percentage? Do you realize he was 10th among all relievers with 60+ innings in WHIP? (3rd among closers)

I'm not concerned about Giles facing the A's with a 3 run lead in May. They are trying to win another World Series. He is the biggest question mark on the team after his playoff performance. We also have a glut of starting pitching and I think we could also do without Gattis. Combined, McHugh and Gattis equal 11.7 million in salary. That covers most of the cost of adding Greg Holland.

Here are 2 post season career stat lines from different hitters.....

    Games 33 Avg. .226 OBP .364 OPS. .684 HR 2 RBI 12

    Games 52 Avg. .317 OBP .417 OPS. .949 HR 9 RBI 41

The top line is a Hall of Famer named Jeff Bagwell with massive regular season stats. The second line is Lance Berkman with lesser regular season stats.. If you have 1 at bat in the playoffs with a game on the line which one do you want up?

    Giles playoff stats:
    Appearances 7 ERA 11.74 Saves 2 IP 7.2 HR 3 BB 5 SO 10 WHIP 2.217 SO/9 11.7

    Greg Holland playoff stats:
    Appearances 12 ERA 2.31 Saves 7 IP 11.2 HR 0 BB 6 SO 15 WHIP 1.114 SO/9 11.6

Here is a random player I found in his first postseason appearance (3 games, 12 at bats):

    .167 BA, .167 OBP, .167 SLG, .333 OPS, 0 RBI, 0 Runs scored

Good thing the Astros didn't give up on that player in the postseason as he is ...... LANCE BERKMAN

The only reason Houston didn't chase Ken Giles out of town like Jacoby Jones is because we ended up winning the World Series. If we lost game 7 I don't think the Astros go into this season with Giles as closer. He wasn't even allowed the chance to blow the World Series because he sucked so bad. I don't expect a pitcher to be perfect. He had 7 appearances and only had ONE where he didn't give up a run. Also, 7 appearances for a closer is a more significant sample size than 12 ABs.

I'm not saying we cut Giles, but adding Holland at the cost of Mchugh, Gattis, and a couple more million..... YES please. If Giles does turn it around now you have a monster pen.

Why do they have to trade McHugh and Gattis for a free agent?

Of course they don't have to. However, I don't see the Astros spending another 12-15 million in payroll without trimming some elsewhere. Gattis and McHugh just seem the most expendable that you could actually get some value for.

Operation mole in full effect. We will reside in their heads until the day they die, likely sometime in October 2018.

You probably missed Tucker's bunt against the shift. Best at bat of any Astro of the day. Shows you how the day is going.

It didn't go well for Goes' first outing.

    12 pitches, 12 balls, 3 walks.

If he has ANY shot at our roster, he's gonna have to get the ball over the plate.
