I'm not necessarily an atheist, so I can't really speak for them. Reza Aslan has an amazing take on God, and I don't think I can do it justice by even trying to discuss it. Definitely worth listening to. All I know is that I don't know God exists. All I know are the things I can experience by my five senses. That's pretty much it. Hence why I classify myself as an agnostic.

You have a point to a certain extent. People assume that he physically murdered people. There is some evidence he shot and tried to kill a drug dealer in the days leading up to helter skelter and some involved claim “Charlie” came and wrote on the walls and observed the crime scene of at least one murder. Still, he can be guilty of murder by instructing an underling to do it. Consider a mob boss like Joseph Messino. He instructed/ordered the death of a number of people. He was charged with first degree murder and capitol punishment of death. Also consider RICO laws in the USA the last 30 years where you can just oversee illegal activities and be convicted for acts of the subordinates.
For sure, I get that, I was just saying that I wasn't aware of anyone rolling over on him and testifying that he had done any of that. Like most people, I assume he's guilty of what they say he's guilty of, I was just curious if there was solid proof of it or if it was just solely a "c'mon we know he's guilty" sort of situation. I'm an atheist. My logic is based on where the evidence leads. Planet formation around stars is pretty common. Planets with similarity to Earth is pretty common. I think we'll find someday that life is pretty common even outside our own planet. Truth is, there is a lot of randomness. Logistically, when the universe was created, it was at too hot of a temperature for chemistry to sustain itself for hundreds of millions of years and only after almost 14 billion years, has the universe cooled down and reached a state of entropy that is suitable for conditions like life to form. Well after the universe reaches its death, the temperature of it will be so cold for the majority of its existence, that the warm, but not too warm timeline where life is sustainable will be but a blip on the radar in the universe's timeline. Yes, you can. The simple fact is that in an infinite Universe, Earth is truly not all that special, no matter how bad you want it to be, being the biased Human that you are. Atheism is not a disbelief in gods or a denial of gods; it is a lack of belief in gods. It is VERY CLEAR that you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what it means to be an Atheist.
The simple fact is this: if all the computer manufactures decided to stop making computers, 20 million years from now the last computer ever made would be 11/21/2017. Computers would not form on their own. A basic fundamental truth is that you cannot separate creation from a creator as two separate entities, existing on their own: one requires the other. Matter came from somewhere. Matter did not just exist without something that created it. If there were no creator, matter itself would not exist. Do you get that? You might try to explain to me that the universe was sneezed into existence, but who is doing the sneezing?
And another thing: you cannot lack belief in a creator (credibly) without proving that something can come from nothing. Most people that believe in God understand this one basic truth that you can't get something from absolutely nothing.
