Watson showed something Sunday, but he also did this: At some point all that dancing around and head-first dives are going to get him injured. And O'Brien's tricked-up for Deshaun offense will get solved by the NFL. Impressive game overall, still needs to play from the pocket -- and a pocket to play from, looking at you OL.
He looked skittish because he wasn't property prepared. Remember it was a short week and they only had walk through type practices. This time they had a good week to catch him up to speed.
One thing I am looking forward to in the upcoming Titans game is Deshaun against the blitz. Lebeau likes to blitz and blitz often and Watson was very good against it. Better than non blitz even.
Yes that was miscommunication between him and Hopkins. Hopkins should know he has to break his pattern off on certain situations. Or maybe Watson threw it short because a defender was in Watson lap and he couldn't step into it.
He said in his first three season, mainly his rookie year. Big difference. Oh and Smith is with one helluva offensive minded coach.
Interesting because Hopkins was going on a fly, while it look like Watson was throwing the back shoulder. Plus Watson didn't have much tome to be baited on that play. But hey he might be right.
BoB is on Texans radio right now. The interview is riveting. He has never talked about a QB like he is Watson right now. You can genuinely tell that O'Brien is a huge fan of this guy. Just gloating about how smart he is in a happier than usual tone. We got a special one and I think BoB knows it. BoB takes notes from the 22 year old.
I don't think Gilmore did honestly. Just what Gilmore said after the game. Looked to me that either there was some bad communication(Remember BOB's offense is predicated towards option routes where receivers need to make the right call per coverage or Watson severely under threw a go route which it does not look like to me.
Only two 1/2 games to judge. So, thus far, "Mission Accomplished". He's going through his progressions too.
Deshaun is getting better and better every day. Hard worker. Smart guy. Everything we throw at him, he picks it up pretty quickly. Good guy. Fun guy to coach. All that said, we're not ready to put him in the Hall of Fame just yet. He's got a long ways to go. Last week was just one game, one in which we lost John. We're on to Tennessee. Spoiler No, he didn't say that.
Mad about what? Watson's still a runaround QB. Problem is the OL is so bad he's forced to run around. So until the GM decides OTs are important, Deshaun will have to run. Now if we ever get a decent OL, then we'll see if he can play from the pocket. Right now the QB he reminds me most of for playing style is Aaron Rodgers. Without the downfield accuracy or the arm, but with the ability to extend plays with his feet and make something happen. Both are pretty cool under pressure. West Coast might suit him better, but have to be able to be accurate deep.
