This is very disturbing. I don't like where this is headed.

I think this upgrades us to an all caps twitter response. That should do it.

John Bolton is one stupid and scary mofo. I don't completely disagree because I think military force should have been used long ago, but his reasoning is grotesque. We would be in endless wars with this guy, he gets a hard-on for this sort of stuff.

China is not going to do anything, and we are not able to do anything.

It feels like 1914 and North Korea is Serbia.

Let's face it, we'll be having this exact same problem with Iran within 10 years.

    Honest question to the board:
Has history ever shown us a well-armed, isolated, paranoid cult, of any size, that had a peaceful ending? I cannot think of one.

Amid all this discussion, I don't see a crucial one, what does KIM want?

To be accepted by the big boys(EU and the US).

It's pretty sad but I'm pretty sure that's all he wants. He wants his regime to be formally recognized.

I actually thought about this a little bit, and I can't think of one. Marshall Tito of the former Yugoslavia had a peaceful end, but his regime wasn't isolated (I visited there in 1971), and unless the Yugoslavian Communist Party could be considered a paranoid cult (debatable), Tito didn't fit that, either. North Korea has already lasted longer than could be reasonably expected for a dictatorship centered on one ruling family, with its power base being the military and its own ruthless, propaganda fueled, on-going and brutal subjugation of its people.

The only thing preventing the US and her allies from taking out that regime long ago was the fear of a wider "hot" war with China, and possibly the USSR, during the Cold War. That, and the heavy civilian casualties that would be inevitable in Seoul from even conventional North Korean artillery, both tube and rocket. Those casualties would have been significantly lower long ago, but that Cold War thing restricted action. All in my opinion, anyway.

It's a damned near impossible situation, and now Putin, faced with this weak clown of a leader in the White House, is exerting himself in North Korea. Anything to weaken the United States, and it only complicates things further. Had trump simply followed Teddy Roosevelt's advice to walk softly and carry a big stick when he came into office a few short months ago, much of this wouldn't have occurred, in my opinion. Sadly, we have an adolescent and corrupt child in the Oval Office.

Hope well-armed, isolated, paranoid cult USA under Trump have a peaceful ending.

Yield was between 120 KT and 50 KT -- so definitely not a Hydrogen (fusion) device, but a boosted fission weapon -- highly unlikely this thing would be deliverable on an ICBM.

Sounds like the plot to the metal gear franchise.
