Japanese and Germany win. Japan gets the west USA and Germany gets the east coast. Oh wait different book.
As a WWII history buff, I'm really looking forward to this one. I just hope it's more along the lines of Tora Tora Tora and less along the lines of Pearl Harbor.....
How does it compare to other war movies such as "Saving Private Ryan" or "Black Hawk Down"? Those two are my goat war movies personally.
If they do stretch the truth, what do you think they'd likely change in Dunkirk. What do you think we should look for that might ruin it a little for you? I can't say I know much about the rescue itself, but do know a little bit about the pincer move Rommel used, and how there was debate in Berlin to slow him down for fear of getting ahead of the line too much. Movie might not get into too much detail that led up to the encirclement, but I assume they might explain the unexpected pause by the Germans, which was key, right?
I've never seen SPR but I liked it better than BHD, even though that was also really good. BHD was more linear, Dunkirk jumps around in time and location a lot. It also relies heavily on buildup and score. I feel like BHD and Hurt Locker were more character driven, this movie is more driven by the situation at hand.
Well for starters, I hope it's not a love story... But seriously, I'll be interested to see what approach they take. Will it be 100% about that "Dunkirk Spirit" or will they also touch on what a military disaster it was for the Allies? Like the "phony war" that led up to it in the first place? Or how the RAF failed to protect the soldiers on the beach? I hope they touch on both. Look at a movie like Tora Tora Tora. They told the Pearl Harbor story from both the American and Japanese perspective. And they weren't afraid to say that we got caught with our pants down. All that being said, I will probably end up liking it just for the action scenes.
http://www.slashfilm.com/christophe...ks-pg-13-rating-its-not-a-war-film-wait-what/ “All of my big blockbuster films have been PG-13. It’s a rating I feel comfortable working with totally. Dunkirk is not a war film. It’s a survival story and first and foremost a suspense film. So while there is a high level of intensity to it, it does not necessarily concern itself with the bloody aspects of combat, which have been so well done in so many films. We were really trying to take a different approach and achieve intensity in a different way. I would really like lots of different types of people to get something out of the experience.” lol. wut?
He didn't want to restrict (literally: R--Restricted) the audience that could see his movie (i.e., this is something kids should see and learn from), so he achieved intensity without the visceral sort of moments that would push him out of PG-13 territory.
When JJ Abrams was asked if he would bring back William Shatner in a future Star Trek role as was done with Spock he replied, 'No they've already Dunkirk'.
Nolan is a huge supporter of using film (as opposed to 35MM) on IMAX's 70MM cameras. You might have remembered the Dark Knight. Coupled with the opportunity to view this film on select 70MM theaters in the US, it would be a great experience to see Dunkirk. 70MM output gives better digital resolution and a much richer visual display overall. I would focus more on the visual and audio experience than the context of the story. Enjoy the movie fellas.
40 reviews in on RT, currently sitting at ...98%, with a 9.0 score. I'm not even gonna pretend to be surprised. He's the best in the business, and rapidly moving up to the best of all time.
