tl;dr Proto-Palestine invades Israel upon "two-state" offering, proceeds to get man-handled for 20 years, squabbles internally, declares the State of Palestine, continues to get man-handled by Israel, Trump is elected, and now they recognize Israel. EDIT:
Where is the part about Palestine recognizing Israel? Or saying anything at all different from what they always say?
I'm not sure what history you are talking about. Please tell me about the invasion of 1997. What two-state offering are you referring to?
I don't believe a word of that. Palestine has never believed in a two state solution with Jews and nothing will change that. They have claimed otherwise many times, but its always for show. Trump can't convince his own party to do ****, but somehow he will convince Palestinians to live peacefully with Jews? bullshit. Just out of curiosity, what is it you think Trump said/did to change Palestine's position?
They will demand a "right of return" as part of the deal, Israel will say it is a non-starter, nothing will happen. The status quo will continue, which favors Israel. Until the Palestinians recognize that they are bargaining from the inferior position and are going to have to accept something much less than what they want, the low grade conflict will continue. In the meantime, the facts on the ground get better for Israel and worse for the Palestinians.
Reuters news wire that stated Abbas saying Palestinians would recognie Israel. I think they took out the destruction of Israel and will actually recognize the '67 border, according to their new platform. However there will be no official recognition of Israel - only an explicit one.
The entire Arab world has said they'd recognize Israel if the 1967 borders were recognized. The Saudis spearheaded that whole initiative during the Bush Administration. This isn't new.
they have always said they believe in a 2 state solution. its all talk. There is no way they let a Jewish state exist.
Israel agreed in the 1940's. It took until the exile of the PLO from Jordan for the Palestinian leadership to get behind this idea...while calling for Israel's destruction.
Israel agreed to the 1967 borders in the 1940s? Eh, doesn't matter. The point is, nothing new happened today.
Being flippant, eh? Why should Israel have to negotiate with a state that has wanted its destruction since day 1?
Because you are not being pragmatic. If you're fine with the status quo then so be it. The little children throw there tantrums. That's how substantially weaker entities show their disdain. Refusing to ever negotiate with them isn't going to help anyone.
Cohete doesn't actually know any history prior to Trump. He likely read some fake news site that claimed Trump did this and just verbal diarrhea'd it out onto this board.
Right, so Israel never agreed to the two-state solution in 1948 and was never invaded, right? What else are you an Juan willing to deny? Anything, hmmm?
There was no agreement of a two state solution in 1948. Israel unilaterally declared itself a state, on disputed land, and that precipitated the attack. The situation has now changed. Israels existence is a reality that most Arab countries have accepted, even if there is disapproval over how it came into existence in the first place. Israel seems content in maintaining the status quo there, and that's how it has been for some time.
Prior to 1948 the soon-to-be Israelis and Palestinians and were invading and committing massacres against each other. The invasion wasn't a sudden surprise or even a change from what was happening before. It hasn't as if the Israelis had been living there peacefully with the Palestinians and then declared a state and all of a sudden were unexpectedly attacked.
Geez Louise. There's plenty we can argue about on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. But, that's one subject I don't want to argue again. I only chimed in because the title promised some new news, and I was scratching my head about where it was. I understand now, and there's nothing left for me here. Good luck to Trump and Kushner on solving this century old problem. Trump assures me they'll succeed where many, many people have already failed. So, I'll not worry myself about it till the ticker tape parade.
