The real problem is Les. The man has no patience for building a contender. Everything with him is instant gratification. It doesn't help that he was handed a title team on a silver platter in his first year as owner(and a second one the following year aside from the Drexler deal which he ok'd).

But since his first two years owning the team, look at what he's done to try to remain competitive. Trade for Barkley, then trade for Pippen, then trade for Francis, then trade 3 first rounders for Eddie Griffin, then trade Francis and Mobley for T-Mac, then trade Rudy Gay for Shane Battier, then trade for Ron Artest, then try to trade for Dwight, then trade for Harden, then sign Dwight, then try to sign Bosh or Melo, and now this entire offseason's plan hinges around signing Durant, Horford, and/or Conley.

Notice a pattern here? He never wants to build through the draft over a period of several years. Everything is about buying talent or flipping role players for a superstar. Yes, the former approach worked for the Heat and the latter for the Celtics recently, but that is a foolish way to run an NBA franchise. Especially when you take into account that the entire reason the Celtics were in position to acquire KG and Allen was because Ainge was willing to stink up the joint for a few years and stockpile picks and assets. The Rockets have nothing to offer anyone right now other than money which won't be enough with the cap scheduled to skyrocket this summer.

I just don't see what Morey's 'edge' over others is now that analytics has been widely accepted as the norm, and basically every team in the NBA makes decisions based on it. Morey was one of the pioneers, but it's not like he has a superior insight or knowledge about analytics which enables him to pick out players that others miss out on. Acquiring Harden based on analytics was no brainer since he was extremely efficient scorer in OKC, putting up 66 TS% in his last year there as a sixth man. Anybody could've noticed the huge potential there, it didn't take a genius mind to figure that out. Same thing with shooting a lot of 3s and not settling for inefficient mid range jumpers. Basically every team in the NBA follows that strategy now, I just don't see what Morey can uniquely bring to the table that other can't. In fact the Warriors are the epitome of Moreyball these days, Morey has fallen way behind in terms of implementing and executing his philosophy.

I'm sure he hires college graduate kids with math degrees to do the number-crunching and data analysis for him, so what is he actually doing and are we sure Morey has a definite edge there compared to others? By looking at the list of player he has acquired/drafted/traded over the years, I'm not really sure Morey is a good GM anymore. 10 years is more than enough time to get actual results, the only guys who served longer than him as GMs all have championship rings around their fingers.
